GM is recalling 181,516 2006-2008 Chevrolet HHRs because the retro-wagon does not meet federal occupant protection requirements unless equipped with side curtain airbags.

HHRs with the optional side curtain airbags are not affected.

Dealers will be installing energy absorbing plastic into the headliner to bring vehicles into compliance. The recall is scheduled to begin in March.
