I just bought a 2009 Silverado Crew Cab and I would like to get some 8000k hids for it.I was just wondering about the daytime running lights and if I could bypass them or somehow wire them into the kits.Or finally is there a kit that is plug and play so I dont have too worry about it.Thanks

You can bypass the both the DRL and the AHL on these trucks.

HOW TO: Disable Auto Headlights on NNBS trucks! - GMFullsize Forums

I cant find the drl how to thread, but it doesn't much matter. You really want to get rid of the ahl's because the will flash on-off-on as you start the truck and that will kill HIDs very quick. Some people like to use VVME for their HID setup, and you will need H11's.

Technically, while all kits are plug and play, I highly reccommend you use relays.

Regarding disabling of Daytime Running Lights (DRL)

I started to eliminate DRLs on my 2008 Chev Silverado, but have not got back to finish the job.

There are 2 DRL fuses in the large fuse box (about the size of a battery) under the hood on the drivers side of the engine compartment.

On my vehicle they are labled DRL (15A) and DRL 2 (15A). They are at locations 31 and 33 on my box.

I got unexpected results when I tried to disable them for two reasons:
1) I don't think I let the vehicle run long enough to stabilize in the start up sequence.
2) It was near dusk, and I believe the nighttime headlights were automatically turning on (which I thought were the running lights).

I will try to get back on this next week and post my findings.

Also -----------
Around 2000, I was working with lighting companies (Osram and Phillips) who were then just making HID lamps for Porsch, Mercedes, Audi,... back then.

I agree that fully igniting the lamps reduce life. The ignitor hits the electrodes with thousands of volts to start the arc lamps.

They did add a different gas to the mixture that would start easier and faster, so when you flash your light at someone you would not get the ignition damage.

I do not know the start up sequencing used when you start your HID equipped truck, so I have no info to offer.

In the past, cost and replacement was not an issue. On a Turbo Carrara, the entire pair of headlights cost around $3000 to replace back then, but if you have a $100,000+ car, who cares.

On my 2003 I pulled the fuse for the DRL's. And there are multiple plug and play kits out there. I've used and tested several different.
