I have a 2000 gmc jimmy. The gas gauge bounces all over the place to a point that I can't tell how much gas is in it. It will go from completely full to below empty and back and forth. Do any of you guys know how to fix this? Besides replacing the fuel pump assembly?

Its a pretty common problem, my 99 does the same thing below half a tank. I believe the fix is dropping the tank and then replacing the fuel sending unit.

my old corsica did that. . .it was really bad if i was driving home at night and i was stuck at a light waiting to make a left turn. . .you kind of get mesmerized by the rhythmic ticking of the indicator and the bobbing of the gas needle. . .

I have the same problem...I'm told it's some sort of pins in the sensor in the gas tank that reads how much gas is in it. It's an easy fix I guess, but annoying none the less.
I just keep track of the KM's I travel and how much I put in. It sits on empty almost all the time, but I can get a few days of driving out of an "empty" tank.

My 90 does it, it used to only act weird sometimes. Now it goes way past full until about a 1/8 tank, or if taking off fast with about a quarter, then it bounces around. If it actually stays on E, it means you have about 2 miles to get gas or you are walking. And yes i found that out the hard way. It needs a new fuel sending unit, and im way to lazy to drop the tank to do it

Since the pumps on our trucks have a tendency to go out anyways I would replace the pump and sending unit after dropping the tank since it is a bitch to do.

My (DD) 00 Trailblazer does the same thing. I've noticed putting it in reverse usually makes the gauge go all the way to E. It makes me think it might be a ground, but I havent figured it out?
